Meet the team. The Pyro. The Heavy. The Spy. The Scout. The Sniper. The Medic. The Engineer. The Demoman. And the Soldier. Together they'll introduce you to the most exciting class-based action ever created.

While most games offer classes as being slight variations of each other, Team Fortress 2 takes it almost to the degree you'd see in a Roleplaying Game. The variety comes down not just to weapons, but even gameplay styles. While the Sniper, who sits back and shoots, seems somewhat typical, there are also classes like The Engineer, who can build turrets and teleporters, or the Spy, who impersonates and infiltrates the other team, destroying them from within. Additionally, Valve has managed to add a surprising amount of personality and comedy to each character, especially considering that it is an online game.

Team Fortress 2 is based around having two opposing player teams (Red and Blu) competing for an objective. The Game Modes range from standard Deathmatch, to Capture the Flag, to having to attack or defend Control Points, to having a team escort a rail car loaded with a bomb through a series of checkpoints.

In addition to having the 9 distinct classes (3 each of Offensive, Defensive, and Support), each can be further tweaked using items (both discovered and purchased). These items, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, can be anything from weapons to hats and allow you to further enhance your characters. Team Fortress 2 went Free-To-Play in 2011, with microtransactions through the in-game store for items and keys being the only remaining (and optional) fee.

Team Fortress 2 was the first of Valve's games to provide detailed statistics for players. At any time, you can look and see how much time you've spent for each class, how many points you've obtained, and the most captures or objectives you've achieved in a single life. In addition to a standard list of Achievements, there are also class-specific Achievements for each of the 9 characters.
