Our friends over at HL-Portal have just announced that they have received an e-mail from Gabe Newell stating that the CS:Source BETA for Condition Zero owners will start on August 10th, with a period of five days prior to get it pre-loaded.
You can read their full news post (in German) here, or you can read the e-mail from our Valve Info Thread right here.
Special thanks goes to Six Three for bringing the news to my attention.

Earlier on today a forum member, SAJ found and posted an interesting article found on the Guardian Unlimited website. The article is about the hack performed on Valve's network, the investigation into the theft of the source code and some details of the arrests. Here's an interesting part:
Definitely an interesting read whether you already knew about the arrests or not. You can catch the full article by clicking here.

We've just this second had news from Valve's director of marketing, Doug Lombardi.
This has certainly been on the cards for a while now and we knew that it would happen at some point this month. I have heard mixed feelings about this from everyone. Some people are seriously going to resent having to upgrade to Steam but my personal opinion is that this is much more of a benefit than anything else. For those of you that still enjoy Counter-Strike 1.5 and do not want to play CS 1.6 then I am sure that somebody will release a third party version of CS 1.5 but having played both versions myself, I think you're better off with CS 1.6 anyway. Don't forget also, that with CS: Source just around the corner, you will essentially be playing CS 1.6 in a simply prettier package afterall, so it will probably be best to make the change now.
For those of you still with doubts about Steam, I wrote an article not so long ago about Steam which you can read here.
