I'm going to wait one week before I try this. also I'm trying the Age of Conan trial and the download is going extremely slow so I might want to wait and just try a mod or 2 whilst I wait

If direct downloads are going slow for anyone, try the torrent. It works great.

It's a good mod, don't get me wrong, but I can't really see it as something people would play everyday or whatever.

Played a few hours of this earlier today, and I'm really, really impressed with it so far. I didn't realise it was going to play like it does - in terms of pace it's more like Raven Shield or SWAT 4 than Counter-Strike. With a decent team the game really shines.

It's pretty much polished to perfection in terms of visuals, all the maps, character and weapon models look and sound fantastic. The weapons are all satisfying to use, and the classes work well. There's a sort of rock, paper scissors element going on with each of the classes having it's own unique vision mode and special equipment. I think this is easily the best Source mod I've played yet - well worth the download. I suppose the best thing I could say about it is it doesn't feel like a mod at all, with some more maps and gametypes this'd be a solid game in its own right. The soundtrack is also pant-shittingly good too.

All style and no substance. Nothing but eye candy.
Take away the few gimmicks it has and it's nothing more than CS with a sci-fi setting.
The round based gameplay is an instant turn off for me. Sitting out and watching others play is not something i consider fun. I don't why i even bother downloading these over hyped mods.

Put the game in contrast with CS.

NT: Stuff
CS: Drunken hilarity.

I don't even like CS. I'm sure I could get drunk and play NT but it's got too many elements and would confuse my tiny little brain.

The mod has been over-designed. They should have released early and determined round-based gameplay isnt fun. If this was like a hardcore Dystopia it would be much better.

Well said.

Round based mod? No other gameplay modes? Blah. I'll pass.

I guess I had convinced myself this was another Dystopia type mod. But when I think about it, this mod team only released media in the forms of weapon shots and the ubiquitous 'epic teaser trailer' every mod does to make themselves feel better, and never released any substance as far as displaying game play mechanics.

Their site doesn't tell you crap either (even when it was up). One day the days of "epic trailers" and "gun render screens" will be over and mod teams will realize that a 4min long game play video without the usual BS After Effects montages are the right way to release media.

Spawn waves is the way to go, keeps players coming back and in the action. They need to figure that out and fast. This game will die just like Plan of Attack did when everyone eventually realizes that CS does CS style gameplay best, and unless you are in a clan or play on a clan server that teamwork is not something easily found.

I must be the only person in the world that doesn't mind round based gameplay. I'll try this out later.

I'm guessing more gametypes will come soon. I'm pretty used to round-based play from playing endless amounts of CoD back in the day, so I really don't mind it either. Even if you get die early on in the round you're only going to have a two minute wait most of the time.

The actual gameplay itself isn't exactly pushing the envelope, but it is well balanced and polished up nicely. The cloaking and vision modes work pretty well and generally mix things up a bit. If you're a fan of tactical team-based games then you should enjoy it - like I said before, I think it feels more like Raven Shield than CS. The slower pace generally has people sticking together and moving around the map as a team - going rambo doesn't really work. Some of the larger outdoor areas are a bit cack though, I think the gameplay is generally better suited to some of the tighter indoor maps.

I've been away but I'm downloading now. Thank god for torrents, getting a very respectable speed. Can't wait to play this mod, been looking forward to it for a while now...I assume the server support situation is pretty good, anyone had any problems?

I heard there are lag issues in outside areas in some maps.

I think, overall, the mod is well done. The rounds go pretty quick, so the round based thing isn't too bad. I'll admit I didn't like it at first, but started to enjoy the game once I got a better understanding of how to play and unlocked more guns.

I've been away so I can't play this until tomorrow night, but this thread is already confirming my fears and/or suspicions - that the mod is too flashy and focuses too much on style over substance and is really nothing more than the usual generic crap gameplay with a bunch of sexy media slapped onto it.

I have to respect the amount of time and effort put into this mod, and the quality of work, but god damn I just hate it when mods work mostly in silence for years and then all of a sudden release with a HUGE wave of hype. My personal philosophy aligns with the idea "release early and often" and rely on gameplay videos and/or hands-on experience over flashy trailers and websites and crap like that, although there's nothing wrong with those so long as they are accompanied by plenty of actual gameplay info unlike NT which doesn't say anything more than "realistic and visceral futuristic combat" about the gameplay ANYWHERE on their website or moddb. I mean serious WTF, people download a mod because it looks good, but they stay because it plays well, in the long run graphics and aesthetics and visual flair are FAR FAR less important than the meat of the game.

Of course in respect to how NT plays I'll hold my judgment until I have a few days worth of playing under my belt, but I'm not enthusiastic.

FYI NeoTokyo was introduced as a UT2K4 mod and Ravenshield was done on the Unreal 2.0 engine, but still remains similar. I wouldn't be surprised if the team was influenced by some of RVS gameplay elements. Maybe that's why i'm drawn to this game... because RVS was GOLDEN:thumbs:

I played for around 90 minutes yesterday and it was really pleasant. The people playing seem to be quite friendly too.

Models and maps are extremely polished as we all know. The gameplay is a little hardcore you really must approach firefights with a cool head and work with your team. There is little room for being rambo. Although that sounds good, it can get a little annoying being really apprehensive to even move from one room to the next.

There are 3 classes which aren't too different from each other, but all have special abilities other ones don't. As you get more kills (and xp) you level up your rank for that particular map (or game), which unlocks higher tier weapons (silenced varieties, shotguns and sniper rifles). This system is actually pretty good in escalating the fight as rounds go on, and makes things really fun. Beware of grenades and team killing. It is very very easy!

The other major thing to note is the ghost. It is this device which random spawns in every map which one player can pick up and hold (in replacement for your primary weapon). It allows that player to see the enemies location through walls and their exact distance away. Using the compass and your microphone you can instruct your team where the enemies are. Unfortunately the ghost has a tracker on it which means when you are holding it the enemy can see your exact location, which is why you should stick in a squad. Which is another cool thing, squads like in BF2 (using 5-9, alpha, bravo etc...) where you can find your squad mates easier. Probably other uses too I'm yet to discover.

Also there is heat vision and motion vision for the classes, and this part-cloak thing you can use which makes you more difficult to spot when crossing open areas. I'm going to play more today for sure. My favourite maps include a snowy environment (attacking a house) and an airstrip map with control tower which is really well made. I would play this over CSS any day.
