Yesterday, after almost no debate, the Indiana State Senate approved a bill that would allow its schools to teach the origin stories of various religions when a class touches on the origin of life. It now moves on to the state's House, where one of its cosponsors is currently the Speaker of the House.

Although the bill as written could be used to create a comparative religion class, its sponsor, Senator Dennis Kruse, has made it clear that he hopes to see it foster the teaching of creationism in science classes. The original text of the bill explicitly mentioned creation science; it has since been modified to mention a variety of religions, including Scientology. In a brief interview, Kruse expressed disdain for evolution, calling it a "Johnny-come-lately" theory.
wow in canada this senator's career would be over before he even tried to table this bill much less get it passed. only in america ..or perhaps some other fundamentalist state

Indiana. The only good thing that state is good for is inspiring the name of dogs.

I feel like in two years, he'd have little trouble being elected in Canada. Or at least Ontario. :/

A Christian Creationist criticising evolution as a "Johnny-come-lately" theory is so deliciously meta that I'm just going to laugh and leave the thread

His name is Henry Jones Jr. Indiana was the name of his family dog and he took it on as a nickname. Eejit was probably referring to this.

why do you say that? ontario is still pretty liberal in comparison to the rest of the country. Hudak may be roman catholic but it would be political suicide to come out with a creationism in schools platform

You guys give Texas bullshit about its creationism in schools, but the school board slammed it down 9-0. Indiana is way worse than us!
