Just got into the fallout series this year. Fallout 3s main storyline was really crappy, but I must admit bethsoft did a great job with the storyline behind the background of the fallout universe.

I'm hoping one day they make a game outside of the U.S. I really would like to know what happened to places like Africa or Australia. I usually don't buy new games anymore because of prices but I will most likely by Fallout New Vegas.

Looks as shitty as Fallout 3 tbh. Will eventually rent it and try it out.

Ok, look up two or three games:
Fallout 1
Fallout 2
Arcanum

Then look towards who created F1 + F2.
Then revise the statement which implies Bethesda created the Fallout franchise, not buying it out and diluting it.
Then look towards who are creating Fallout: New Vegas, finding out in fact that many of those are the same that created F1+F2.

Might get it on a decent steam sale. I'm not a big enough fan of the franchise for me to dish out full price on a game using an engine built 4-5 years ago.

TBH, the creature (giant worms), vehicles and grenade launching assualt rifle are the only things holding my interest.

Ya I agree. They kept it interesting though with background stories in fallout 3. Fallout Vegas looks to have more of a connection with the original two fallouts since the Republic of California will be playing a role.

I liked Fallout 3, but I played it enough to get bored of it. This looks too similar for me to be interested in it again.

Eventually after a price drop, looks too similar to FO3 and not in a good way :|

It is basically Fallout 3.
... With more customisation, better writing, and hopefully they found a way to not give you godmode with maxed-out SPECIAL.

I probably won't buy this right away but I will play it. For singleplayer games I don't really see the rush on getting it. Plus I may get it because its around my birthday

I'll probably get it, but they need to make the game less tedious.

Being able to max all your stats was a stupid idea. Weapon repair was also annoying to a whole new extent. After using your weapon for about 3 minutes it would literally lose half of it's damage.

Still, I won't be surprised if I got bored of the game the same way I got bored of Fallout 3. A sandbox game like this gets boring fast when you realize you traverse through the same environment every single time, and all you do is VATS spam.

He meant "actual sequel to Fallout 2's universe and storyline".

Hopefully they won't do like Bethesda and rely on people to use VATS OH LOOK WE HAVE VATS LOOK AT THIS when their combat is the shittiest thing ever and instead make the combat fun.

I can't consider it for initial full price release, I need a sale for this one.

This is a sentiment I could get behind.

It's been confirmed they don't? For one, proper iron sights are IN.

I'll be keeping an eye on this since I recently purchased Fallout 3 on Amazon. I haven't played any new games for a long time, so I'm expecting this'll keep me entertained for a bit before New Vegas is released. It might become boring after a while, judging from what some of you have already said, but at least I might be able to get some fun out of it for the time being.

I wouldn't hesitate getting Fallout NV, as I loved Fallout 3 alot. But I have so many lockup problems and crases with Fallout 3 (especially with the more recent Patches) I virtually can't play Fallout 3 anymore. And that's a huge shame for me as I *LOVED* Fallout 3! I'm hesitating to consider Fallout NV because I fear that these same lockup problems could occur in Fallout NV. I'll wait for people's impressions before I get it.

I'm looking forward to it but in the back of my mind I know that it's obsidian who're developing it and they'll probably mess it up one way or another. Or in many ways :|.

The Obsidian team is made up of the original creators (not Bethesda) of the Fallout series. So I'd say it's in good hands.

As for gameplay, I wouldn't mind seeing perks that have both positive and negative effects on your character. As you leveled up in Fallout 3, you basically turned superhuman.

While on the subject of Fallout 3, does anyone still have their saved games folder? I don't remember exactly where I left off but I know I made it past the aircraft carrier level and past the museum part, but I don't remember which came first. I reformatted a while back and I guess I forgot to back the saved games up and I really don't feel like replaying to where I was.

From what I heard Obsidian significantly increased how many action points are needed to use VATS, along with removing things like bobbleheads etc that give you SPECIAL points, added strength requirements for weapons, no more perks every level (every 2 levels iirc), they also added traits and damage threshold among other things. I can't remember it all off the top of my head.

So yeah I guess it should be a lot more balanced although VATS might be broken beyond fixing.

Yep, pretty excited for New Vegas, and have it pre-ordered as well. I'm hoping for a (much) better story, characters, and combat. I just wish Obsidian was given a little more time to polish the visuals, even though I don't care, it will probably hurt sales.

Why? Fallout 3 sold like hot cakes and the worst criticism levied against the graphics was "dated". Otherwise, the reviewers were collectively masturbating over them.

Well, my reasoning could be faulty, but...the graphics in NV will probably be held up to harsher criticism simply because they will seem even more dated. It is a sequel after all. Also, and this does not mean this represents the general fanbase, but on other forums there have been complaints about the dated graphics. Of course, this won't automatically translate into relatively poor sales, but graphics seem to be tied somewhat to a game's popularity. I just want NV to be a resounding success, so there will be more games similiar to it released in the future.

I see your point, though, and I hope the majority of the new fanbase forgives the outdated graphics.

I just want to clarify that I don't care that much about graphical development beyond a certain point. NV's will suffice for me.

However you can install the game on as many systems as you want (with no restrictions!), and you do not have to be online to play the game after your initial activation. Not only that, but once the game has activated on Steam, you can throw out the game DVD entirely and just download the game over Steam. If you don’t even have a DVD drive, you can just take the CD-Key from the box, enter it into Steam, and download it without ever using the disc at all.
Holy shit. THAT is how you win over customers. I might buy this now.

dont all steamworks games do that tho?

As for NV's graphics and reviews, i think it will be considered a negative point but reviewers nowadays are too damned soft to make an issue out of it empirically, that is unless obsidian do another AP technically speaking on NV =/

I don't know. I liked Fallout 3 and everything, even played every single expansion to boot, but New Vegas is probably just more of the same tbh, and I want something new.

At LEAST a new engine or something but it's one of those 50+ hour games I don't have much time for anymore anyways.
Plus I'm playing Mass Effect 2 atm, so I don't care much about anything else right now.

tl;dr The same gameplay and the same engine gets stale after 5 expansions.

No. Risen, which I am playing through right now, can only be activated 3 times on Steam. Here is a list of other games with activation limits on Steam:

- Crysis: Warhead (SecuROM, 5 activations)
- FarCry 2 (SecuROM, 5 activations)
- Grand Theft Auto Episodes from Liberty City (SecuROM, 15 Activations)
- Batman: Arkham Asylum (SecuROM, 4 per month activation limit)
- Avatar (Tagès, 3 activations)
- Risen (Tagès, 3 activations)
- Anno 1404 (Tagès, 3 activations)
- Borderlands DLC 1 and 2 (SecuROM, 5 activations)
- Chronicles Of Riddick (Tages, 3 activations, Get them back after 30 Days)
- Dark Void Zero (SecuROM, 5 activations))
- Alpha Protocol (Uniloc 5 Acitvations, will be removed in 12 - 24 months)
- IronGrip Warlord (5 Registration limitation, ability to unRegister to get limit back)

Hence the reason I "borrowed" Risen from my friend to play it.

You know what i'm talking about, reviewers an all that ;)

I played it on consoles and never encountered much serious technical issues that some reviewers claimed but i can agree with their sentiments on the combat and AI :|

I just can't see them repeating that (and hope) when they're reusing so much of FO3 =/

I meant steamworks only as drm i.e. fear 2, MW2, empire total war etc.
