am i the only one who is a little disappointed in this? the way reviewers are describing it is exactly like counter strike but with better graphics and stuff. i know it's only a port but would it have killed them to at least put in new characters and weapons?
i for one don't think they should even have bothered porting counter strike if they aren't going to add anything at all to the gameplay. they should have just been working on counter strike 2 the whole time

Probably because that's all it was ever intended to be.

CS:S is a better cs.

They dont want to change the basics because it could ruin cs.

Well there is a great big part in cs:s that will change even the strategy of cs. The game heavily incorperates the physics of the source engine into the game. Just imagine using nades to move a wrecked car to block exits or entrences to bombsites, or covering the bombsites with a million barrels to make it harder for a ct to defuse, or making walls of barrels for cover. I cant wait to play cs:s beta :) it definitely will not dissapoint anyone! who plays!

yes.............. i already addressed that in my post.............. you didn't even address my point though. what is the point in making it if they aren't even going to add new weapons and characters? they could have been spending their time on counter strike2 instead and have it released with half life 2

Yes, I read your post. I'm not quite sure why you're "disappointed" if you understood all along that it would be a straight port.

I believe the point is to hold us CS players over for a while until they finish CS2.

If they spent their time adding new stuff to CS:S they would have LESS time for working on CS2. It shouldn't be too much work porting it over and updating stuff. I doubt they would have been able to finish CS2 in time for HL2 even if they has skipped CS:S completely.

If your into CS now, you will have such a blast with CS:S. When CS2 comes out then you should be impressed/dissapointed towards CS2 and you wont even worry about CS:S...

first of all, i DIDN'T understand all along that it would be a straight port. i just learned that a few days ago, i guess that's why i am disappointed about no new things. secondly, is counter strike 2 going to be free or cost money and do you have a link that supports your answer? i asked this question earlier but i got one "it's free" and one "costs money" answer but no proof for either answer :(

There are plenty of new things. They haven't been working on it for long and they want to get all the basic CS stuff finished before they start adding new content, which they have already said they would.

So, no reason to be disappointed.

well first of all.
Cs:S is a port. Therefor there it isn't ment to be a whole new game and add 10 new weopons etc.
Its ment to be a Cs gone insane with gfx and physics and everything.
But i agree, after its released it will prob get updated with new weopons etc...

I hope u are right, and they REALLY make use of the new physics, that include a correct bullet penetration.
And that you can't jump from about 30 feet in 10 inches of water and won't get hurt. Like u can do it on Aztec.

So - if they use ALL the benefits of the new engine, i won't be dissapointed. If they don' fix these obvious bugs i will...

ps: ok i would have liked prone .... but i can live without it, there are other shooters around ;)

CS:S will be amazing. I mean, CS right now is real fun . . . some of the best multiplayer action out there. The only problem with it currently is outdated graphics and physics, which will be drastically improved in CS:S. So, I am quite happy that CS:S will simply be the same gameplay with improved graphics and physics.

Exactly, its not meant to be a totally new game. Things like new weapons would change gameplay, its not what they want to do at the moment. Also, getting rid of the aztec water jumps would be piss easy now, but they dont, cause its part of the overall gameplay of the map.
Let's face it, gameplay wise, CS simply owns all other games. Simple yet effective and extremely addictive. THAT, with awesome graphics/physics is gonna be bloody amazing.

So you're just disappointed because there aren't any new weapons or new "characters"? It takes a lot of time to balance the gameplay once you add a single new weapon and I'm not even sure what you mean by new characters, if you're talking about player models well you can always download new custom ones ,-)

Some people just aren't up for change.

I personally am tired of hearing bad previews. You have to think, its pretty hard to make previews, especially since you only have info released from the developer..

I should know...I write reviews/previews for a couple of game places..

In my opinion, CS:S will be wayyyy better than CS. CS:S is making me want to get back into CS, because i've been taking a break until CS:S comes out, or I get my clan a server...

CS:S beta is coming out in a week, and i'm gonna beta test it, i'm gonna enjoy it, and I dont give a shit what the bad previewers think. They don't like it, they don't play it. Just let us play it, and let them go be bored.

hmmm...there is a couple of ways i can answer that.. the most obvious being that adding new weapons and characters would not only delay the CS:Source beta, but then HL2 as well would be delayed. why u say? Doug is on record saying that CS:Source will be available along with HL2 when its released.

the other obvious reason would be simply that Valve needs to test the source engine and the netcode on a very wide range of computers.. whats the best way of doing that? u guessed it Charlie! :D through a CS:Source beta!

so this part of ur post is mostly irrelevant because with my second point, i provided a pretty darn good reason why Valve needed/wanted to port CS onto the source engine. :)

^ i'm sure if they wanted to add new stuff to CS:S, it wouldn't delay the game. they could have just started porting a little earlier, god knows they have had enough time.
and this is directed to the people that said if they added new weapons and characters (of course i meant player models dumbass! what else would i mean?!), it wouldn't be a port, yes it would........

I really hope they don't change that. It is supposed to basically be a port with better graphics. If they changed that "bug" it would actually change strats for aztec. If players would take realistic damage from jumping off bridge, they would either go down to very low life or die from falling into water. I really don't think they would make it this way because, like I said, that would screw over some aztec strats and also make the map more CT sided than ever. Which would be changing the game more than making it look better.

whoever asked that question about CS2 being free or costing money, i think itll be costing you something, as will TF2 and anything else that comes through valve, with a 2 at the end :p

about this CS:S stuff, i think the doctor gave a very good reason. in reponse to your comment about they shouldnt have bothered porting it, then thats crap. i doubt youd want to play CS over its Source sibling, regardless of whether its got new stuff or not. and CS2 will be the one to watch for your shiny new weapons and maybe even some cars.

Oh god, no! It would be the end of the world if someone had to change his strategies........ :rolling: (attention: sarcasm)

You have your opinion(you call it "feature" - I call it bug ;) ). But i think it is much more important to have this changed then sticking to some old tactics. :upstare:

And balancing will be messed up anyway, since there are soo many new features/objects.

As I see it, CS:S is meant to just make the game look pretty, not to change gameplay. Making it so you take a lot of damage jumping off bridge is certainly changing gameplay.

It also makes bridge into a deathtrap. If you get shot while on bridge you no longer have the choice of jumping, because you will die. You can only run to one side of the bridge, and if your attacker is in one of the bridgerooms you cannot possibly make it out alive. Now you can at least jump into water and attempt to take cover.

I really don't feel the new objects like barrels will change the map at all. I think they are just physics toys. And I can't think of any other "features" that will change the map's balance... umm... ragdoll deaths? No... I think the only major change, besides appearance, would be water damage.

I'm guessing you don't play in scrims; if you did I think you would understand what I'm saying better. Although I still think it will have a negative impact even in pubs.

Oh, and I never called it a "feature" - I specifically said it was a "bug."

Vavle is just being careful.Cs:S is taking a fairly big step from CS. Physics can add like twice the content once modders get their hands on some tools... And if you watched the one new interview video, They were talking about how they always are adding new content to the games like the new weapons, maps, models, fixes, additions, and crap like that. They stated that they were planning on continuing to keep updating Cs:S as well. So it is possible more weapons and crap will show up. Once Cs:S is evolved completely over CS, they will probably start CS 2, which they might have started already. But what I'm excited for is TF2, whenever they'l release that...

I think that one of the good things about Cs:S is definately the improved hitboxes, I am sick of the current random headshots and stuff. And the physics is going to be also a really good thing,ah the possibilities...:p

No. I'm not dissappointed.

Previewers are making it seem bad, probably because they aren't as open to change as much as we are. Previews can only be based upon what the developer has released. Unless of course you've actually been to VALVe studios and playtested it.
