2023 has been a phenomenal year for game releases – and here is a list of the best games for you to play in 2023!
There is little left of 2023, which means the top-ranking games are pretty solid in their standing. Some bit titles are yet to come are Football Manager 2024, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and Super Mario RPG in November, and for December, we have Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince and Gnosia – just to name a few.
But what games are out right now that you can get your hands on?
Baldur’s Gate 3
Highly anticipated a legion of fans awaited this release – and it was more than worth the wait.
The studio, Larian Studios, has long been one of the best studios in the business, so it was always going to top the best games of the 2023 list. It takes everything you love about Dungeons and Dragons and makes it a digital experience – every decision you make or don’t make changes the course of the game for you. Your dungeon master comes in the form of a chatty narrator – and of course, there are plenty of twists, turns, and battles that you will be hard-pressed to get through.
Baldur’s Gate 3 takes the lines between a tabletop and a game and stitches them together in a seamless and enjoyable game that you can play for hours.
Available on Xbox Series X and Series S, macOS, Microsoft Windows, and PlayStation 5.
Rainbow Mania Slot
From Habanero, Rainbow Mania Slot is hot, hot, hot! People who are familiar with any of the Rainbow Riches lines will get everything they want and more with Rainbow Mania. It has all of the familiar images and a couple of cool features, including Pots of Gold and expanded leprechaun Wilds. What makes this one stand out is that it has up to 133 free spins – meaning you’re much more likely to scoop a win. Rainbow Mania wasn’t the only slot that players loved this year, though; check this one out by bonus.net.nz!
Available to play on PC and mobile devices.
Dave the Diver
It might not sound like much, but Dave the Diver is a game that has a little bit of everything in it. It is an indie game that has been incredibly popular – and really does go above and beyond expectations. Here is what you get when you choose Dave the Diver: A visual novel, a restaurant SIM game, an ocean exploration adventure, and a 2-D shooter. And, while it might sound like a lot, it isn’t – it somehow works. The graphics are beautiful, and the more you play, the deeper you’ll dive into Dave’s world as the story unfolds. Dave the Diver is a game you sit down to play for an hour, and before you know it, it is tomorrow morning- but you just need to finish that last thing!
Available on Microsoft Windows and macOS via Steam or Nintendo.
Amnesia: The Bunker
Do you like to be scared clean out of your seat? Then Amnesia: The Bunker is the one for you! You may remember many YouTube gamers playing Amnesia: The Dark Descent and screaming – a lot. The only thing you could do to stay safe was to run and hide while surrounded by creeping, dangerous abominations and essentially being hunted. It’s best played with headphones in a dark room. And on to the latest release, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and what a game. You are a World War 1 soldier hidden in a bunker – trying to avoid the horrors that await. A light-sensitive horror known as the Beast is as scary as they get – and since you’re in a bunker, you’re okay, right? Not quite! You’ve got to head out to get supplies – but make it quick because Beast has a bone to pick with you.
Available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, and PlayStation 4.
Dredge
Expect the unexpected – a game like you’ve never played before. And while you will say a couple of times, ‘oh this reminds me of XYZ,’ Dredge is a game completely of its own. Combining fishing – known for being relaxing, with horror- known for being the polar opposite. It is unlike other fishing sims and leans heavily into the fact that millions of us find open water uncomfortable. You’ll need to focus on upgrading your boat because you will face a plethora of horrors along the way. The prompts are simple, the low-poly artwork is very fitting and almost relaxing, and even if you mess up the prompts, you won’t lose your fish. It is as the mist evenings roll in that the rest of the story is uncovered – and the real meat of the story starts to be hinted at.
Available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox /series X & S, and Microsoft Windows.
