Anyone curious as to why Valve hasn't started distributing movies over STEAM yet? I would think STEAM would be the perfect platform for studios to sell movies since it allows data to be encrypted and associated with a particular account, unlike DVDs which can be ripped. All VALVe would need to do is integrate a proper video player into STEAM and everything would be dandy.

Maybe music too? And iPhone apps?

Steam is a game distributor, not a multimedia distributor.

No. Do-all companies usually suck at everything.

Music wouldn't work, most people like to listen to music on the go and unlike Apple and iTunes VALVe doesn't have a mobile device capable of playing encrypted files, and no way would any label allow music to be sold in raw mp3 format. And what possible incentive would Apple have to put music/apps on STEAM when they have iTunes?

It's not a huge leap to go from games to movies though.

Steam does distribute some free movies. Most notably the TF2 shorts, although they're promotional. The only non-promotional movie at Steam is, as far as I know, this.

They used to have "Zombie Movie" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0832524/) for free download to anyone with a Steam account. It doesn't seem to be there anymore.

I wish free stuff would be guaranteed to stay on Steam. I miss Codename: Gordon.

Oh man, if Steam eventually becomes an all-in-one platform for my games, movies, tv, and music, I will ****ing die from happiness.

    Assuming it all works.
