So, I have a Logitech Duel Action gamepad, and have been trying to get it to work with HL:2
So far I've had no luck. If anyone has any insight, I'd be very thankful.

Use a keyboard and mouse instead, the way the game was meant to be played. The way all FPS games are meant to be played.

The fact that your gamepad doesn't work despite your efforts should be interpreted as a clear sign that you should use mouse + keyboard.

The universe is telling you to stop. It is a divine signal. Stop gimping yourself. It's like playing a fighting game without an arcade stick or a flight sim without a flight stick. Sure, you CAN play without them, but why would you want to? FPS games are designed for mouse and keyboard.

Again, I've heard that argument. I still prefer a gamepad. I'm just looking for a way to make it work.

Use xpadder, it translates button presses and maps them to keyboard keys.

Actually, Xpadder has been working great, except that I've been having trouble with the d-pad. It seems to control the both sticks at once.
I was able to get the right stick to work for the view, but walking had been a chore. Anyone have a suggestion?

Just use the mouse and keyboard. It's not only much more simpler and effective to use, but also much more competitive as well (if you play online). Gamepads limit your crosshair movement alot, whiles mouse allows you to turn fast or turn slow at your mighty command. You play the game, the game don't play you. ;)

If you really want to use gamepad, then do none of the options menu help? I'm sure there is enable joystick look and other options like that.
