• Mailbag Feature Now Open!

Discussion in 'News' started by Chris_D, May 23, 2006.

It's been a while since we had any sort of on-going feature here at Halflife2.net, but today I'm pleased to announce that we're now running a mailbag feature!
Every month we'll set a topic and all you need to do is e-mail us with your opinions and you might have the chance of winning a top prize if you submit the best letter to us.
This month's topic is about Episodic gaming and you can read the full details, here.
The best letters and the winner will be published in two weeks time, when once again we'll be posing another topic.
Got something else to say? Just e-mail us anyway!

A winner has pretty much been chosen, though it's not definate.

However, our prize is on holiday in Barcelona.

    We'll keep you updated.
  2. Kadayi
Chris_D took the prize with him on holiday? :O

*ponders what the prize could be...

Just announce the winner and get the prize out later.

Nearly Riomhaire, but you neglected the obvious option. The infamous Catalonian...

I sent in an entry for this competition before i joined the staff, making it impossible to win! It was a mighty fine article too. *shoots self in foot* :D

    Reporting in! :p

I believe Chris_D is sorting out sending the prizes and stuff now because he moved house and had to find the "Valve goodies box" Doug sent him. Sui has read all the entries and believe he's near done with his verdict (or is done now). So when they are ready to say you'll know. *passes the buck* :(

    Reporting in!

I leave for a week and there's still no winner!

I know. I really don't know how I can paraphrase my previous rants any more effectively, to be honest. :(

I can't imagine what could possibly need nearly 2 months to sort out, in a competition as straightforward as this. Still, I've lost the will to rant and most of the staff posting here seem genuinely unable to do anything about the lateness anyway, which is fair enough. So long as a winner - whoever it may be - is announced some time very soon, I don't mind - the only thing that would really annoy me beyond belief is if the staff were waiting for the fuss surrounding this competition to die down so that they could hold onto the prize for a future competition. Which I'm sure won't happen, but y'know ...
  12. Sulkdodds
I would really like to tell you exactly why it is taking so long, but
    A. I cannot get my head around it.
    B. I'm not sure I'm allowed to.

    /sigh
  13. DVS82
Don't worry dude. It's clear enough your intentions are good.
  14. Hectic Glenn
DVS82, we'd absolutely love to get this winner out and the prize announced, the problem lies with the higher management of this site being generally incompetent to run this properly. Rest assured we are trying to push it through and make the mailbag sustainable to run from the people who are here talking to you now. If i were in your shoes i'd be miffed, but we're really sorry it's come to this.
  15. Kadayi
Prolly best to start the december mailbag contest now ;D
  16. Rossjg
We aren't happy about these developments either. But there is only so much we can do.

You take that back!!! That's the funniest thing I have ever seen...I actually can't stop laughing when I look at it, no matter how many times I have looked at it - Always cheers me up :)

    News Update please?
  20. Sulkdodds
"I'm going to shit in your lungs for this, Royce."
  21. Shakermaker
    Is that this month's subject?
  22. Sulkdodds
It is a cryptic clue. By decoding it, you will stand a chance of winning a fabulous prize. :x
  23. Solaris
Could we please have a situation update, staff?
  24. Sulkdodds
    No, because nothing has changed.
  25. Solaris
You still can't acces the emails?
  26. Sulkdodds
I don't believe that is still a problem.

I'll make a deal with you: ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies. :(

Just keep pestering so we're kept under pressure.
  27. Solaris
Well I'd really appreciate not being kept in the dark over this, as would the other people who spent their time entering the competition.
  28. Sulkdodds
Except I don't actually know if I'm allowed to tell you what the problem is.
  29. DVS82
Someone's lost/accidendtly deleted all the entries, right?
  30. Forceflow
No plush headcrab ? Well, there goes my participation.
  31. Kadayi
It's sounds like it, that or someone sold the prize on Ebay/fed it to the dog. :|
  32. DVS82
OK, seriously now, what the f**k? I respect the staff who have posted here in as much as could be expected for people who have delayed a reasonable explanation for so long, but I do think Valve have a right to know that the prize they gave, the prize you promised for this competition has just been kept (or "lost" by Chris_D). It's genuinely out of order making us wait this long. We're almost in August for God's sake. This was held in May. I for one would like a defintive explanation now; I'm pretty sure I speak for other, less vocal entrants too.
  33. Solaris
He does, although I don't know who the prize belongs too, probably not valve any longer.

I really don't appreciate not even being told why there is a delay, or if the winner is ever going to be announced.
  34. DVS82
An email I've just sent to Chris_D:

    "Dear Chris,

I'll keep this relatively brief because I'm a busy chap and I'm sure you are too. My name is David, or "DVS82" on the hl2.net forums. I'm writing because I'd like an explanation as to what is going on with the mailbag competition, if it's not too much trouble. Having entered that competition 3 months ago and been expecting an announcement on the results within the following couple of weeks, I'm needless to say extremely disappointed to find that, like everyone else, I'm still completely in the dark as to what's going on.

Having waited this long, with no official response from any member of site staff, I have come to the (possibly inaccurate; who's to say?) conclusion that someone has lost the prize and is now feeling too embarassed/cowardly to own up to it. And I must say, I have to presume it is you, since it has already been mentioned in the Mailbag thread that you took the prize with you on holiday. Why you would do that is beyond me. However, part of me is also sceptical as to whether, if the prize is indeed AWOL, you genuinely lost it or, as an obviously keen Half-Life and Valve fan, decided to just keep something so apparently desirable for yourself. If that is the case, your dishonesty will catch up with you one day. If not, I genuinely apologise profusely for the accusation and we'll say no harm done. Whilst I respect that accidents can happen, I don't respect an attitude of complete dismissiveness to the people who put effort into writing letters for that competition 3 months ago. Before I write to Valve and inform them that a prize they gave you to award to a site reader has been lost/kept by a member of site staff, I'd like a definitive explanation once and for all what is going on. That is the very least you owe me, and all other particpants, having kept us waiting so long already.

Regards and I eagerly await your response."
  35. Ennui
You're not the only one who's pissed about the situation. No details from me, but I share your aggravation.
  36. Solaris
You're a supermoderator ennui, surely you know what is going on??

Can somebody please tell us? We have a right to know.
