I go to university in central London, and pass through London Liverpool Street station most days, anyone who knows London knows this is one of the big main central stations. Imagine my surprise when running for my train this week, to see this on the big screen... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJy71108K3g It's pretty cool to see two worlds meet. The work on this website and my life outside of it are very different things, and it's pretty funny to see them bump into each other. Sorry the video cuts short, I stopped it early to take a picture of the last screen (which didn't come out great...heh). Anyone else seen the ad about?
My sister said she saw the trailer shown somewhere in central london recently too. I haven't seen anything in glasgae yet.
Apologies for camera phone'age. It could have been average rather than down right terrible if I'd put it in focus, but my train was going in like 30 seconds. Video is watchable though right!? I would have attempted some kind of Left 4 Dead hand gesture, but doing that in central London in a train station would have got me arrested.
Haha its fine man, its cool to see, we have a bus stop outside our house here, and it usually has a game poster on it, was hoping for L4D but it still shows Fallout 3 heh.
What uni you commuting to, Glenn? Truth. I got stop-searched by police as an anti-terror measure at Liverpool Street about a year back. Years ago at Tottenham Court Road, as the train pulled into the Central Line platform I ran off the train screaming "DON'T GO IN THERE!!!!!" (for shits and dares). Couldn't imagine doing that nowadays without getting shot 40 times in the head. It was worth it for everyone's reactions though.
I did the other night too. It was at an odd time too, about 2 am while they were playing the shitty movie Bloodrayne.
At about 1am the other night I stepped off the bus having missed my stop. I was the only person to get off here. The streets were empty and the night was black, with a crisp coldness in the air, but no breeze. I checked the bus shelter to find out I was somewhere in Norwood (South London, near Croydon). I heard a weird mechanical shuffling noise from behind me and looked up through the darkness to see a lit up billboard overlooking a patch of grassy scrubland. It had turned to reveal the unmistakable red, white and green of the Left 4 Dead logo. The setting could not have been more L4D. It was awesome. As I walked back towards home I turned a second time to catch it turn to the logo again. And I smiled to myself.
Queen Mary Well, it's about a 20 second trailer, I had 30 seconds to stop and stand still! Thought it might be worth making it vaguely clearly to watch
There've been quite a few billboard ads (huge ones) about and it's really fun seeing them because they don't say what they're about - just the hand, Left 4 Dead, L4D.com in the corner and the Valve logo. It doesn't give anything away and I feel like I'm in on an inside joke.
I've seen that comercial several times (on comedy central I think). I'm happy to see that tha marketing worked, and many of my real life friends intend to pick up L4D.
Why aren't these around here? Would be so awesome. All we have is stupid football games and cute games (well, I did in fact like Eets).
Mile End, eh? Small world, former best friend of mine studied drama there a couple of years back. On-topic: ADS!!! I like to look at them with my eyes (then sometimes buy the advertised product, depending on the impression made).
That's great! When I visited Liverpool Station this summer they broadcasted only stupid adverts. I also remember those Half-Life PS2 posters at Leicester Square. <3 London
I was in New York City for Thanksgiving and I caught a glimpse of the Left 4 Dead poster and video up in Times Square, it was pretty cool. My camera phone sucks though so I didn't bother taking any pictures.
Oh, oh WOOOOW. A video game was actually advertised in the mother ****ing UK?! Wow. And i thought all this shitty country cared about was football. Now if only my area would start doing this...
