I'm going to skip the whole "oh gosh, this is so surprising and deplorable" remark and go with the "typical" approach.

He's violating his hippocratic (clearly an sp there) oath. Should have his medical licence stripped off him.

No, he said a patient's politics would not affect his care for them, he would just prefer not to treat people who support the president. He's not denying anyone.

Yep Hippocratic. And Also, he is violating it. Some doctors are greedy bastards though... probably more than one would expect. It's not like any reasonable percentage of doctors in America are hard up for cash. It's one of the highest paying professions in one of the highest paid countries in the world. Yeah it takes hard work and education, but there are a lot of careers in the world that take just as much or more and pay a hell of a lot less.

People like this just... make me lose a little hope in humanity.

    edit:

His sign says "seek urologic care elsewhere." That is turning people away. It is pretty damn explicit in saying "Go to another place that is not here to get the care you need." If he wanted the sign to say what he said, it would say what he said.

Do you believe he would provide the same quality of care to an obama/health care reform supporter compared to a republican? I sure as hell don't. He literally has people's lives in his hands and his political bias can get somebody killed.

    I say **** him and **** Doctors.

When we tried to get the NHS introduced in the UK all the Doctors went nuts and threatened to boycott it and strike and shit. Aaeurran bevan had to negotiate with them so they remained very very rich as NHS doctors.

**** them, we don't need them. The government should offer Medicial Students free education if they agree to remain in the public sector for so many years.

    Now you're just being cynical.

Unless someone walks into his office wearing an Obama t-shirt, I doubt he will know their political orientation. And assuming his bias would get in the way of the quality of his care is a biased and cynical assumption that has little base in fact.

I'd be worried about health care reform affecting my Urologist too. I wouldn't want anything rammed down my urethra.

The fact is that it is a sign for all to see. It's intimidation and, whether it's entirely true or enforceable, would you really want to risk it? Do you want to go to a person who is capable of potentially controlling whether you live or die based on your political affiliations? Logically you could go in and not say a thing and be treated just fine, but it is always possible that his bias WOULD get in the way of the quality of his care. In the world of medicine, one likes to avoid the "possible" at all cost.

He is in a literal position of power based upon his profession and he is using it to intimidate individuals seeking needed medical care. It is not ethically correct except maybe to a fringe of conservative zealots and the truly sadistic. If the Hippocratic Oath does not include something along these lines, it very well should.

It's Aneurin afaik, but yeah, he is directly quoted as saying he 'stuffed their mouths with gold' to keep doctors on side

This is despicable. Perhaps it's good that people get a clue (by seeing the sign) that he is a trifling and unscrupulous doctor.

Wow! you guys are REALY overreacting. He has a right to express his opinion especially because his future is directly affected buy this bill.

That sign is him trying to make a point. He isn't actually turning people away... except the idiots who take the sign literally.

But all you guys start invoking the spirit of Glen Beck and start spouting melodramatic comments about "loosing faith in humanity" and breaking oaths.

Lighten up. The man has a right to express himself... even if his methods are somewhat juvenile.

    Are you a moron, lord_raken?

Do you commonly see signs that say "if you're Black/Asian/Hispanic/female/Democrat then seek business elsewhere."? What kind of ****ing world do you live in where this is acceptable?

I don't think the hippocratic oath is binding in any legal sense, it's like scouts honour for doctors.

While I think a private doctor should be allowed to deny people care. I think its a dickish thing to do.

Which is a very reasonable and honest position to take.

And as it stands I'm inclined to agree with you.

But if I remember correctly this doctor isn't actually refusing care to Obama supporters, and that sign is just him trying to make a point.

At the very least, a doctor can deny no one for emergency care, even if they cannot pay.

And you support discrimination under the guise of free speech; you're just as bad as him.

It's probably just a stupid move on his part. He'll just lose business and people will go to other urologists. Let him suffer the consequences of his own act.

I love how this guy acts like voting for one candidate over the other actually makes some sort of difference in this country. What an absolute moron. I would read his sign as a clear reason to stay away from this doctor who must have gotten his medical schooling at the Mr. Doctor School of Wacko Medicine in Idiotsville.

I'm not sure about the full nature of their oath but I don't think they are required to render assistance, but the doctors I know would NEVER let someone bleed to death in the waiting room just because the can't pay.

"Support discrimination?"... What are you smoking?

Drop the holier-than-thou attitude and stop making premature and assuming judgements.

My father has been a surgeon for 46 years. He's told me he can't deny anyone medical treatment whether than can pay or not.
What is the point of this statement? The people I know would never drive drunk.

You think I'm on drugs because I know what words mean?
Wait, so anyone who holds words on a sign at their face value are idiots? People are supposed to know he's not serious, and it won't affect their medical care. It's just some kind of joke, with people laughing when they read it at how humorous it is.

What does this have to do with opinion anyway? His "opinion" is that patients should seek medical care from a different doctor if they voted for President Obama?
Well, I don't value your opinion, so I'll just ignore you.

Oh no, a urologist doesn't want to see me. Now where else will I find a man to stick his fingers up my anus?

Urologists are the ones who fondle your penis, you're thinking of proctologists.

Pretty sure urologists need to go through the anus to examine your prostate.

But to rephrase: now where will I find a man to stick a cotton swab down my urethra?

Head south from the corner of 5th and Autumn. Go to the alley next to the Super Cuts. Ask for Madirez.

    The code word is "Gumby".

    "Seek Urologic Care Elsewhere"

That isn't in any way attempting to turn people away?

And why wouldn't we take the sign literally? If it said "No Jews", would you expect some people to shrug it off as being non-literal?

He absolutely has a right to express himself, just as we have the right to condemn his actions and label him a prick. There's a grey area regarding his oath and this sign, but his patients come before his political views...period.

It was childish but I'm betting he got exactly what he wanted from taping it up. Publicity.
