Half-Life: Source edit .gcf files

    How can i edit a .gcf file without extracting it? I am using Half-Life:source and when i extract the file in the folder that it was supposed to be the files (HL1) then remove the .gcf files it says a error at startup that they can't find the files

    I am new to this game pls help me

    I think the main problem is that you're deleting the .gcf files and putting your files into the wrong place. What you should do is go to the folder SteamApps/common/Half-Life 2/hl1 and there create a new folder named "custom". In that folder you make another one, which you can give any name. In this folder you can put your files, but make sure you put those in the correct folders too.
    So for example, when you want to replace the sound for the rocket laucher, your new .wav should be in SteamApps/common/Half-Life 2/hl1/custom/Dave'sCoolMod/sound/weapons/rocketfire1.wav
    After that don't delete anything, just start the game and it should work.
