First, you must prove your worth by searching through your own oldest posts, and relive your humble beginnings as sorted by chronological order. Do this and read ten pages of posts, then I shall train you.

Somehow mine still do, but the bulk of them is gone because of the Rumors and Speculation board being canned. All those posts...gone. Wiped away in Munro's crazy restructuring.

Also you might want to check how you're searching, because sometimes the search engine will randomly omit old posts. I find the best way to do it is search by user name, find posts from a year ago and older, sort results ascending, show results as posts.

How did this thread get from the degeneration of Hl2.N to first posts?

The subject was quickly forgotten because it is not degenerating.

Speaking of, "How did thread about X become thread about Y," I'd like to note that some of our best threads have come about that way. Moderators may frown upon--and occasionally infract--for off-topic posts, but in certain threads that have either

    a) outlived their usefulness (including threads that were never useful at all)
    b) where the initial problem or issue has been discussed and resolved
    c) have continued for an extraordinary length (generally 7-9+ pages)

off-topic posts WILL begin to crop up in the thread, and more often than not I have seen them turn pointless, useless, and stupid threads into something funny--for a time, until it's usually shut down. But it's interesting to note that these posts give rise to some of the best of Halflife2's threads. I don't know whether it's just the general feeling of being unrestricted, or that there's some kind of humor that just springs out of everybody from taking over a thread meant for one thing and turned into something completely different (and often silly). In these glimpses of random spontaneity we see real shows of creativity, we see members laughing and enjoying themselves, playing off of each other with their cleverness. It's in these bursts of thread hijack that, I feel, we grow closer as a community. You can post all the, "How do you feel about this" and "What/how do you X" kinds of threads you want designed to get to know your fellow members, but ultimately I think we learn more about each other from those humorous moments. Or, perhaps not more about them, but those are memories that stick out in my mind. I remember the "My Avatar" thread becoming an epic adventure to save the timeline from total destruction, multiple members participating in it having giant monster battles and eventually having Cortez, the G-man, Sherman and Mr. Peabody, and Dexter trying to save time.

I do not remember things like what wallpaper you use, how your desk is set up, or what hand you wipe your ass with. But I remember you if you tried to SAVE TIME.

And that's the sort of thing that builds and strengthens the community, much as it tends to malign the mods. I know how y'all hate off-topic posts (tried to stop the Iron Fist, I saw ya) but they are, without a doubt, one of the greatest boons to a community. You have to learn how to embrace that. It should never run rampant, good threads should not suddenly dissolve into chaos, but if you look at this thread as an example, a thread that's run its course and by the flow of posts and events becomes something entirely different...ah, that's wonderful. That's something to get behind.

And aye, Delusional, my first post WAS long. It set the stage; I'm a longwinded guy.

Oh boy, guess we should stop talking about first posts here now that they made a thread about it =X

I feel like this is the secret non-public area to talk about it.

No, this could just be like an alternate timeline, albeit one very similar to our own. Or their own.

I hate divergent timelines. A timeline for every possibility...it's worse than the multiverse. At least in the multiverse you get cool alternate versions of yourself; divergent timelines you're all the same guy, and where's the fun in that?

Well, if you went out far enough, you would find a universe with a timeline different enough from ours that you would have an alternate version of yourself. But it wouldn't be too different, because anything major would end up in you being a completely different person, rather than just you with a french accent.

Like your mother accidentally dropped you in an alternate timeline, and you became retarded. So it would be you, and then a retarded alternate you :/

Man, I hate retarded alternate me. He wears a stupid helmet and can't talk right, and I gotta take him to the park where he embarasses me.

But I'm allowed to talk shit about him because he's me, and if anybody else does it [IMG]

I don't hate my alternative me. Actually, I love my alternative me more than my family. Oh, I will be right back, my alternative me is hungry, so I must feed my alternative me because he gets angry at me when I don't. I have a great responsibility, taking care of him.

    Edit: Nice story there

I'm afraid to search for my werewolf thread.

I'm embarrassed by it. I can almost guarantee it I'll read it and think "Oh my god... what shitty and unconvincing writing I did"

    Because it's true.

Have you ever noticed the strange fascination with werewolves on this board? Nobody really cares about what Dracula's up to (unless he comes to dance); Frankenstein's enjoying some peace and solitude and the Mummy's laying low off the radar. But werewolves? HL2.net loves werewolves.

In an alternate universe (not timeline) we're all werewolves.

Although I assume that in some alternate timelines SOME of us are werewolves.

I think that forum users sympathise with the complex of living a normal life by day, then turning into frothing beasts by night.

I remember having some White Wolf Vampire cards. Those were neat. Never learned how to play the game though; I just bought it because of...werewolves...hunh.

Heeeey I think I found it after searching so much, but I won't post any link of course. I don't know if it's the right thread because I like it. Is there something about being chased in your werewolf story? :cheese:
