    Ugh...

I was hoping for a nice minimalist art deco design. Why is 95% of video games graphic design terrible?

I hate Games For Windows banner. Hope it's not new fashion for box covers.

I love the little sister hiding in the background. Could do without the big daddy's cheesy comic book stance though.\

Also get the **** out of my life Games for Windows.

    I like it a lot.

It would have been better though if they used like supposed poster made for that Utopian world with that 40/50s art style.

Also like this one in the honorable mentions for the collectors edition.

The box-art is good enough. The design alone will shift some units. It's not like the game is going to be better with a stronger cover.

almost all upcoming pc games will be Games for Windows ...to my knowledge only blizzrd and valve are avoiding the games for windows initiative

it's not all that bad as it allows for some standardization ..I just dont like what it represents: a means of corraling the wild west of pc gaming into something they can control and micro-transaction us to death with

The poses are ridiculous. It looks like the big guy and the little girl are a crime-fighting team or something.

edit: Hahaha, the goatse one's on that page of winners. Genius.

Although it's been like that for years when it comes to PC gaming unless of course Mac and Linux really get a foothod in the market(probably if vista remains quite unpopular for some time) and they start selling games. We'll have comp wars and console wars! :O

Okay since when did we start judging games by their covers???

I mean i dont know about you, but i hardly bought a game like GoW because it had an awesome cover...who gives a ***t.

If HL2 : EP2 came in a pink and baby blue box saying 'youre a fag if you buy this! haha!' written all over it in gold pixie dust pen, i bet youd still buy it wouldnt you.

    Exactly.

...oh and i think it looks good.

the whole 'games for windows' thing is kinda cheesy, even if theyre doing it to all new boxes now (well, most of them). Its like they think we dont know 99.9% of PC games are run on windows anyway...

It's not that the cover is putting people, people are just a bit concerned at why they've chosen to pick that for a game like Bioshock. A key element of this game is it's atmosphere and creepyness, so a minamilist cover would of done. Give it something like this and it looks like something from Timesplitters or something.

I dislike it. I'm going to love the game, however. (Hopefully!)

Why is that even relevant? I don't see any posts on the quality of the game, or that people aren't going to buy it because the cover looks like shit? People are simply commenting on what they see, and that is a ****ing horrible box art. This thread exists purely to comment on the boxart. I've been less than blown away by recent Bioshock releases, but I'll still probably buy it, and from what I have seen this box really misrepresents the game.

This can only mean bad things. :p

The usual cliche dramatic camera angle screenie with minimal touch ups in photoshop, it's no different to all the others. A monkey could do it.

Though the cheesy pose kinda reminds me of something that I can't quite put my finger on... pokemon maybe. Or duke nukem. Or the Kurgan.

Of course we'd have preferred a minimalistic style cover, because we're already attracted to the game. Regardless of whether or not we like the box art, it's meant to attract people who DON'T know what the game is.

While I really dig a lot of the limited edition Cult of Rapture ones (and will likely be purchasing that version) I can definitely see why they didn't go with it for the release.

Also who even cares about a games box? I throw all of mine away. I think the only ones I still have are the Return to Castle Wolfenstein one because it was a tin, and the System Shock 2 box.

It really is terrible, I'd expect better from a company who generally has had some incredible art direction.

I'd hope the box art wouldn't be anyone's first impression of this game, it's a shame and misleading.

I don't see how making the box art look like every other B-grade turd on the bargain bin shelf is going to attract people unfamiliar with the title.

The problem with it is that there's nothing that makes it feel unique. It's indistinguishable from at least 70% of the games that populate the PC gaming section. I can personally disregard the damn thing. But considering the track record of sales these games tend to have... I just don't want to see a good game completely slip past its potential customers like so many previous ones have.

Hey... you've seen my homebrew Half-Life Episode One box?!

The boxart... isn't good. It doesn't communicate anything about what the game is about, and no, this isn't an issue of 'oh noes! the deep strategic elements / artistic elements of the game aren't championed!', I just genuinely couldn't tell you what the game was about. Unless it's about the Big-daddy and it's supposed to be some kind of ICO-like game where you escort a princess around... somewhere. You can't even tell for certain that this is an underwater game from that image (could just as easily be set in a rainy industrial district). Sure, no one who calls themselves a gamer wants to see Bioshock sold as a dumb jock shooter, but you know... it WOULD be a start.

It does make me concerned about Bioshock in general though... there's apparently not a SHODAN-worthy character to put on the front of the box :/

I think Andrew Ryan will be the game's SHODAN, and they're keeping his looks a mystery.

The cover art should be a LOT more subtle than what they have. But I guess they're trying to get the attention of FPS Doug demographic.

You live in MA and you're asking that?
Surely you've noticed the shitty bulky-DVD cases that 90% of all games have been coming in now?

You're stuck with the box-art to stare at unless you take the disk out of the case and put it in another. :|
