ya they're down to $249 here as well ..the same price as the vanilla 8800GT ..yesterday a retailer I often buy from had the vanilla cards going for $239 and the superclocked version for $249 ..they'd have to go to the sub $200 level to make them worth the prce

$249 was the price I would've payed for the 640mb before I got my 7950.

If you don't stop cursing and instead, move your butt, and get yourself a one; soon they will reach the $300+. This is demand and supply baby, Sign Of The Whales. eVGA is still selling em for $279.00.

    These are the 650MHz Superclocked.

    Man, I wish I knew.
Its anybody guess how these cards will behave in the market. But, my guts tell me; the fact that these cards did perform remarkably with flying colors; They will only decline in value; only if ATI (I'm sure Nvidia will never compete with itself) Comes up with something comparable; in performance and price; then (The Intel vs AMD style) price war may began.
These little bastards are threatening the big brother GTX for almost half the price. I see them as the (Poor-man's Windfall).
I'm sure their price won't fall soon; Rising is what I'm afraid of.

    Good Luck.

How does this card compare to the 8800GTS 640mb?

You should worry about the ram if you plan on playing games (like Crysis) in high resolutions.

Also, it's more like DX 10.1 has some backwards compatibility with DX10. This card doesn't solely support DX10.1.

It is rather disheartening to see my 320 GTS be thoroughly stomped by a "midrange" card. It almost makes me wish I had waited six months to build my computer. Almost.

Yeah I agree the higher the resolutions, AA and AF the more ram you will need. Engines like Doom3, Crytek, Cry2 and JupiterEX are extremely memory hog.
Matter of fact Doom3 engine is what really started this multi-billion dollar upgrade.
Nonetheless 512MB is plenty for most games and you can always dual up. these cards are one step shy of being equal to GTX. If you compare GT with GTX spec they're almost identical (More or less) the only difference is the memory speed and capacity which is the result of few frames.

Like I said: This card is one of a kind, this is the Poor-man's windfall (Literally).
It is so perfect; it worries me. As far as quality and lifespan goes; The cooling design turns me off and, that's if I must criticize it. Otherwise, this is a dream come true.

A mid-range card which shakes a fist at top-range cards? For almost have the price? Priceless!

According to the review; the GT is somewhere between the 640MBGTS and the big GTX (Not the Ultra). The 320MBGTS was beaten the crap out. So, yeah it outperformed the 640GTS. The GTX barely escaped.

    Good Luck.

    [edit]

They are now $299.99 at eVGA.

Newegg can't keep up with demand lol [/edit]

PNY is supposedly making a dual slot GT with a bigger cooler and and it exhausts out the back

ncix.com a canadian company (they ship to the US and are usually cheaper than newegg) had it for $239.99 on launch day ..they have none in stock so they jacked up the price to $284 but once they have more in they'll be back at around $249 ..I purchased the Super Superclocked evga for $279 should be here tommorrow or monday :)

I'm glad PNY is designing better cooling. The thin looking (As far as appearance goes) makes the card look neglected (Sort of).
I don't know, maybe its only me that maybe I'm so used to the double-decking idea.

Also, people can buy after market GPU coolers if they're not satisfied with stock cooling. I think the GT has same board design as the GTS and the GTX, therefore, cooling maybe interchangeable.

There are always other options and don't let that thin look fool ya.

Consider the 8800GT as the skinny kid at elementary who once beat the crap out of ya.

Way to go Cpt. Do some benchmarking and keep us posted Capt. in fact; I love to see some 3Dmark06 results. Enjoy.

You must be crapping in your pants by now? I did that with my first big card; it was BFG's 6800 Ultra (AGP). I bought it from near by Best Buy like $600.00 (Newegg wasn't popular then) when I saw how big the card was; I literally crapped in my pants, freaking ran to the bathroom ... I can't make this up even if I tried. lol.

I ordered the Super clocked off of evga.com and was wondering if I could run that in SLI with a stock 8800GT or do I need another Super clocked? Because I would do the step up program bu they only offer the stock card.

Now I have a 7900 GT 256 and an 8800 GTS 640 to sell. Any takers?

As soon as I get my paycheck next Friday - I'm so ordering one from eVGA. I'm still undecided on whether to get the $300 e-GeForce 8800GT SSC 512MB or just the $269 thats slightly underclocked compared to the SSC.

Any opinions on this, oh great HL2.net forum goers?

Hey I just found out I can still do the step-up program and have 23 days left! :cheese: How do I go about the step-up program? Will it cost money? A flamehaus member said you have to pay S&H and that's it. I have everything with it except the box. Should I swap my GTX for the GT?

Well if I bought my computer now, pirated Halo 2, and bought Vista later, I would be spending $1,094.93. I bought my stuff like 2-3 months ago and it was at $1,640ish with Halo 2 and Vista. I spent $510ish on my GTX too. I really got ****ed over. Also A-Data never sent me my rebate back. ;(

if you're gonna not pay for any of that, make it vista x64. I think the 32bit already got updates that screwed it.

I ordered the EVGA Superclocked Crysis edition from OcUK and they sent me a webnote when I questioned the arrival date and they confirmed it to be Thursday 15th, so less than a full week fingers crossed!
