I can vouch for the Baldur's gate series, I think I can blame a lot of bad school grades on those games lol, but yeah they're similar in gameplay...

don't waste time on fallout and Arcanum. go for planescape or even baldur's gate(avoid throne of baal though) if you want newer stuff try dragon...
