Okay just to be clear, the player in the screenshot you showed would not support anything larger than 480p. In fact, you can't have a 720p sized player in youtube (without that extension) without going into full screen mode. The option you posted in that picture does not apply to anything beyond 480p since their nonfullscreen players do not go larger than 480p.
Again, it worked fine up until a few months ago. Now it doesn't. That's why I'm mad. I don't care if it's wasted bandwidth, a convenient feature (buffer HD without going fullscreen) used to work and now it doesn't. Besides which, video compression means that 720p has fewer artifacts than 480p in the 480p player itself, so it's not wasted in the first place.
The difference seems barely noticeable to me, but if that's worth jumping in load times for you then more power to you.
I didn't know that you were complaining about having 480p video in a 480p sized window. If you had made this more clear in the first post I wouldn't have gone all asshole-vegeta on you. :(
So anyway, yeah, get that extension I showed you if you want a solution.
And I will definitely check out that Chrome extension, Youtube in Firefox has been getting additional different issues recently, that don't seem to have anything to do with Noscript or Adblock. Thanks for the link.
