Experience the events of Half-Life from an entirely new perspective as you step into the shoes of Corporal Adrian Shephard part of the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit; the very same unit sent into Black Mesa to clean up the alien invasion and kill all witnesses including Gordon Freeman and the rest of the science team.
Eventually Shephard gets separated from his colleagues and he must join forces with the Black Mesa team to ensure his escape.
Throughout his mission to escape Shephard encounters some environments you may remember from your time as Gordon Freeman, including Xen, areas of Surface Tension and even the very moment that Gordon jumps into the Xen Portal within the Lambda Complex.
Black Ops units are sent in to further clean up the mess by way of planting a nuclear device which will be sure to kill everything within the Black Mesa Research Facility. Even after disabling the bomb, it is rearmed by the enigmatic G-Man. After a final stand-off between Shephard and a massive gene worm creature from Race X, Shephard is teleported out of Black Mesa to be congratulated by the G-Man, just in time to see the nuclear device detonate. Reminiscent of your encounter as Gordon Freeman, G-Man teleports Shephard away pending further evaluation.
Developed by Gearbox Software, the game was released in November 1999 to achieve high review scores and even named 'Game of the Year' by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.
