Counter-Strike: Source blends Counter-Strike's award-winning teamplay action with the advanced technology of Source technology. Featuring state of the art graphics, all new sounds, and introducing physics, Counter-Strike: Source is a must-have for every action gamer. Counter-Strike is available now for PC only.

Counter-Strike

The original Counter-Strike was a hugely popular multiplayer first person shooter modification for Half-Life. Since Counter-Strike's release in June 1999 it has quickly established itself as the most popular multiplayer game of all time. Even the combined online player count of all Quake and Unreal games combined can not match the number of players CS pulls in.

Gameplay

Counter-Strike pits a Counter-Terrorist team (CT) and a Terrorist team (T) against each other in a variety of exotic and urban environments. It features three game modes: Defusion where T players plant a bomb and CT players defuse it, Hostage Rescue where CT players attempt to rescue hostages, and Assassination where T players attempt to kill a VIP that the CT players must protect. When one of the teams completes the objective they win the round. Deathmatch style running around and killing is not as important as completing these objectives.

Counter-Strike: Source Changes

Counter-Strike: Source is a recreation of that game using the new Source engine. All of the graphics have been given a gigantic overhaul, with additions such as dynamic lighting and shadows, realistic water and shader effects, high polygon models, high resolution materials and a fantastic physics engine courtesy of Havok. Also of course, the maps have all been re-designed and re-textured, with many minor adjustments to the maps, just to make them that little bit more balanced or to provide you with better opportunities to make use of the physics system.

Weapons

To aid in the killing of opposing teams you have a large choice of realistic weapons from a small Glock hand pistol to the deadly G3/SG1 Sniper Rifle. To start off with however you are stuck with only a knife and a pistol. To gain access to better weapons and equipment such as body armour and grenades you need to kill the enemy team or complete objectives to receive money. The more money you receive the better your kit.
