Wanted - a few good Menn

I would very much like to play some Mann Up co-op with some players who know their way around these TF2 modes. It's been fun and games playing so far with random public players, but I don't think we'll be able to take on the expert levels if only two of us are playing with voice chat, the heavy is using the Tomislav, one of our two snipers is using the Sydney Sleeper... you get the picture.

This Saturday morning (10am PST or another time if it'll work for you) is when we should all be online to start playing. I'll be playing a kritz medic (although I'll use the Quick Fix or Medigun if you have a convincing argument otherwise). I'll also buy you a ticket if that's holding you back.

I don't want to just squeeze through expert mode - I want to have fun doing it with a good team. Who's down?

Unfortunately Nintendo fans are waaaaaay outnumbering the Valve/TF2 fans from what I can see on the likes of the Facebook comments page for this 'match' and Hale seems to be in danger of losing...
pl_thundermountain secret?

So today I joined a server with the map set to pl_thundermountain, I joined team BLU. Behind the BLU spawn was a window that showed the inside of a warehouse. In that warehouse, there were 5 of the classes standing around a map of the world, occasionally taunting or dancing randomly.
What do you guys think? Another hint to something? Or was it always there?

TF2 Scripting Tutorial

Welcome to my scripting guide!

For editing CFG files I recommend using Notepad + +.

All things mentioned here should be saved in your user config.
How you can make your own config? Where it should be placed?

Your TF2 cfg folder where you put all your configs should be located in:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\%accountame%\team fortress 2\tf\cfg
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steamapps\%accountame%\team fortress 2\tf\cfg
Where %accountname% is your Steam login.

After you made/paste all scripts you want, save your config as myconfig.txt than click on file in explorer and change txt to cfg.(You of course can place your own name instead myconfig.

Now open autoexec.cfg
and add a line
exec configname
where configname is name of config that you have chosen recently.

In your CFG folder you can find configs with class names in titles, they are executed every time you select that class.

Note:If you cant see .txt in file name please follow this guide

Numpad key names
Binding

Its just assigning commands to keys

bind "key" "command"

If you want to assign multiple commands divide them by ;

bind "key" "command; command; command"

1# You want to bind reload to a specified key:

bind "key" "+reload"

bind "key" "taunt; wait 30; explode"
Incrementvar
That command allows you cycle between specified values on chosen range.

bind "key" "incrementvar command 1 12 3
(where 1 and 12 is range and 3 is jump between values)

1# You want to change sensitivity from one to twenty with 2 points jump.

bind "key" "incrementvar sensitivity 1 20 2"

2# You want to switch between 3 basic net_graph positions with one click.

bind "key" "incrementvar net_graphpos 1 3 1"

Aliasing

alias nameofyourscript "firstalias"
alias firstalias "command; command; alias nameofyourscript secondalias"
alias secondalias "command; command; alias nameofyourscript thirdalias"
alias thirdalias "command; alias nameofyourscript firstalias" //last alias should point to first one

Note: you can use as many aliases as you want, same with commands.

1# Lets say that we want a name changing script.

alias namescr "firstname"
alias firstname "setinfo name "First_name"; alias namescr secondname"
alias secondname "setinfo name "Second_name"; alias namescr thirdname"
alias thirdname "setinfo name "Third-name"; alias namescr firstname"

bind "key" namescr

Note: That script does not allow spaces in names, if you want space in your nick look below.

2# Duck script. Second example will be a duck script that will allow you to duck without holding a key.

alias duck "duckON"
alias duckON "+duck; alias duck duckOFF"
alias duckOFF "-duck; alias duck duckON"
bind "key" "duck"

3# You and your friend are playing at same PC, both of you have diffrent keybindings. There is a easy solution for this!

alias configsw "yourconfig"
alias yourconfig "exec yourconfig; echo Yourconfig.cfg; wait 250; developer 0; alias configsw friendconfig"
alias friendconfig "exec friendconfig; developer 1; echo Friendconfig.cfg; wait 250; developer 0; alias configsw yourconfig"
bind "key" "configsw"

New custom map server

Tired of 24/7 Dustbowl servers? Want to check out some great maps from the community? The [Darkside] clan has just opened up a new server: Darkside fastDL Custom Rotation or Vote!

IP: 8.17.250.227:27015

We run mostly custom maps, of all types, from ctf to payload. Currently the server has some league favorites like cp_obscure_final and ctf_vitalism_b2; as well as some neat maps like ctf_aerospace_b4, a map that takes place at a top-secret aircraft construction site; and koth_scorched_final, a king-of-the-hill map inside a volcano's core!

There are only 5 stock maps in the rotation--none of them Dustbowl or 2fort, and one of them Hydro. (Because no servers play Hydro anymore. Poor Hydro.) We'll probably be playing the new Doomsday map as well, just because. Players can vote on which maps they'd like to play, and we'll rotate maps every so often, keeping what players like and featuring new community maps.

The server also has some donator perks for players who'd like to support custom map servers; bonus round immunity and scramble/autobalance protection.

There are plans for events on the server as well, including things like "Crazy Sh*t" night; a night of some of the strangest--but fun--maps made by the community.

Be sure to stop by, and have fun!

Getting more performance from your TF2

So here's just a couple of things you can do if you want a better framerate in the game.. The first two things on this list will not affect your graphics quality in any way, only give you better performance. The rest are about sacrificing various degrees of graphical quality for better performance.

The first two things will no affect your graphics quality. They are not guaranteed to work but if they do they will not make your game look or play any worse.
Setting an Antivirus Exception
Basically there's a file in your Steam folder (Steam\appcache\stats\UserGameStats_####_####) that tracks stats and gets updated all the time when you're playing TF2. Some antiviruses will monitor these kinds of changes and keep scanning this file over and over so all you need to do is set an exception. Instructions here. This should be perfectly safe.

Performance Boost for Dualcores and Quadcores
Add "-threads 4" to your launch options (or up to 8 for quadcores) and make sure multicore rendering is turned on in your options. Additionally play around with mat_queue_mode and try values 1 and 2, mine is set to 2 because I get maximum performance from it. Original thread here.

The two items will lower your graphics settings in an attempt to improve performance to various degrees.
Direct X 8
Team Fortress 2 still supports Direct X 8 and even if you have a DX9 or higher compatible card you can get a boost by having the game render in DX8 instead. This will obviously reduce your graphics quality and make things less shiney. Just ad "-dxlevel 81" to your launch options.

To get to your launch options open Steam and right click on Team Fortress 2, go to properties and then click the button that says set launch options. When you launch the game the next time your resolution will probably have been set way down. This is normal. Just set your resolution back to normal in the options menu and remove "-dxlevel 81" from your launch options again (otherwise the resolution will keep resetting).

FPS Configs
Go here for Chris' FPS Configs. He as configs that both increase performance and increase graphics (not both unfortunately). Instructions included. They should always work regardless of updates or what server you're on. Note if you're using these they will interfere with the dualcore fix above. At the bottom of the maxframes config for example there is this:

// Threading
cl_threaded_bone_setup "0"
cl_threaded_client_leaf_system "0"
mat_queue_mode "-1"
r_threaded_client_shadow_manager "1"
r_threaded_particles "1"
r_threaded_renderables "1"
r_queued_decals "0"
r_queued_post_processing "0"
r_queued_ropes "1"
I was recommended to use mat_queue_mode 1 or 2, r_queued_post_processing 0 and set all the other things on that list to 1 and it seems to have given a really good performance boost.

The last few items will mod your game files. This isn't ideal: Every item needs to be modified individually and so when a new item comes out they won't be covered by this. Secondly any server that runs the "sv_pure" setting (which all official Valve servers run) will stop these from working.
Hat Removal
Are you poor and Irish? (I certainly am) Are you afraid hats with no LODs are affecting your performance? Think of your poor graphics card rendering thousands of polygons even when the hats are so far away you can't even make out what they are. Here is a zip file (thanks to Tricky X) that contains "skins" for hats that just tell the game not to draw it.

I'm not exactly sure how up to date this is but I don't think it'll block any hats that have been released in the last two months. Maybe I'll do those myself. I'll see how much time it takes. Anyway unlike old methods of removing hats updates should not break this. The downside is that it doesn't work on servers running the sv_pure command (which includes official Valve servers). There is also this plugin but it only works on non-VAC servers.

Remove Phong
I think this is mainly intended for people who just don't like phong but it does give some performance boost. I've never used it so I can't vouch for how well it works or how up-to-date everything is. Link to no-phong models here.

Low-Poly Models
I do not recommend this but you use it if you're really desperate. This skin-pack will reduce your characters to low-polygon versions. The reason I don't recommend it is that they're out of date. The Gunslinger doesn't show up properly and the Chargin' Targe doesn't attach to the Demoman properly to name two things. Also not all of the unlockable weapons are changed so if you're playing Sniper you have the choice between a low-detail rifle or the 6,000 polygon Sydney Sleeper which is pretty jarring. Again this won't work on sv_pure servers.

Basic 'hl2.exe has crashed' errors

I started getting these maybe two updates ago, and haven't been able to play. It just updated again today, and the game still hangs. I've tried some basic things (verifying cache integrity, deleting clientregistry.blog, deleting the bin folder, and changing the resolution in the launch options). Is this a one-off error (something unique to me), or is this widespread enough that has Valve's attention for a fix? The error type is so common, it's hard to tell if it's just me or due to the recent patches when searching for tips on how to fix this. Other Valve/Steam games run fine.

Some one has set up a shop

Someone has set up an automated TF2 shop:
http://www.tf2wh.com/

I've tested it out by dumping all my duplicate items into it (didn't have time to test the buying, will do that tonight).

It works like this: You sign in through the Steam community (if you've used tf2tp or tf2bp you should be familiar with this system). You do enter you Steam username and password but the website is not sent that information, Valve only sends it confirmation that you are who you claim you are.

Then you're brought back to the site and you get 500 free credits for signing up. Then you press the sell button and you're put it a trade queue. When the queue reaches zero a trading bot sends you a friend request. When you accept it opens a trade request. You dump in whatever items you want to sell and it checks if it's valid (they don't take crates) and accepts the trade. When the trade goes through you get credits in relation to what you gave them (I gave then 10 random dupes I had, got a little over 3,000 credits).

I haven't bought anything yet but I think you make a list of what you want to buy with your credits, then click the buy button and another trade bot comes along and gives you what you requested.

Obviously there's a mark-up but if this thing actually has a good selection of items it seems like it'd be worth the price for convenience. They also have strange weapons.

SOURCE ENGINE PROBLEM, PLEES HELP

I have a Nvidia 9800gt video card, a good while ago I started geting these white lines in source engine games such as counter strike source, team fortress 2 and half life 2. doesnt look like a big problem but its very noticable on my res. i have tried redownloading, reinstalling windows (7), trying other drivers which has helped slightly, and one thing that helped alot was turning AA on full, makes the line thinner, but i dont want to play with AA on full because my video card is not fit for that. The white lines flicker and move when changing the distance and viewing angle. Where its very noticable is in half life 2 when you are in the water, you float and the your eyes are exactly in line with the top of the water which makes a big white line all around you. Any help would be much appreciated, Any questions, please ask

war3source mod servers

Does anybody know of a server that uses this mod, preferably in the United States or Canada? I have found one server that uses it, but there's a dick of an admin there who loves banning/kicking people when they kill him, so I'd like to find a new one.

Google hasn't helped much, so I figured I'd ask you guys.

Trading thread

I am kinda surprised we don't have one. I'll start, but not before linking to this page. That gives you a good idea of 'pricing'.

I need a bottle of Mad Milk. I'll offer one scrap metal for that. Jarate is also welcome so I can craft it myself.

I also want to trade my duplicate strange Chargin' Targe. Preferably for a strange Eyelander, but other strange weapon offers are welcome too.
