San Francisco startup creates Portal levels to attract/test prospective applicants

A startup called WibiData decided to try to set themselves apart from the dime-a-dozen bay area startups that are popping up all the time and (presumably paid someone to) put some ridiculous amount of time and effort into creating a series of Portal 2 maps with custom assets, soundtrack, and story in order to attract young, gamer culture type developers to apply. Here's the trailer:
Check out the posting and download the Portal 2 mod here if you like. I haven't tried it yet, but will later.

So, I get to meet GLaDOS's voice actor/actress Ellen McLain for the second time at Anime Midwest.

The first time she came, she actually went to the formal dance and danced with half the people there. It was beautiful! And she performed both songs with her husband.

Who else is going or has seen her elsewhere?

Portal Song Lyrics

This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
Aperture Science
We do what we must
because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are still alive.
I'm not even angry.
I'm being so sincere right now.
Even though you broke my heart.
And killed me.
And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.
As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you!
Now these points of data make a beautiful line.
And we're out of beta.
We're releasing on time.
So I'm GLaD. I got burned.
Think of all the things we learned
for the people who are still alive.
Go ahead and leave me.
I think I prefer to stay inside.
Maybe you'll find someone else to help you.
Maybe Black Mesa
THAT WAS A JOKE.
HAHA. FAT CHANCE.
Anyway, this cake is great.
It's so delicious and moist.
Look at me still talking
when there's Science to do.
When I look out there, it makes me GLaD I'm not you.
I've experiments to run.
There is research to be done.
On the people who are still alive.
And believe me I am still alive.
I'm doing Science and I'm still alive.
I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive.
While you're dying I'll be still alive.
And when you're dead I will be still alive.
STILL ALIVE

Deleted Caroline Message [Spoilers]

I searched for the topic around the forums so it seems that no one posted a thread about it. I was doing some google searches on Caroline and GLaDOS when I stumbled upon on this video.

The last couple of lines are the unused ones. where Caroline was probably either arguing about being turned into GLaDOS or while the process of it. From the video I also found a quote from Valve explaining why they didn't use the script.

These are some lines from a recording where Caroline was forcibly turned into GLaDOS. Ellen cried when she recorded them, and JK Simmons refused to read his lines because it seemed too much like rape to him. We agreed;

"No listen to me! Sir, I do not want this."
"I do not want this!"
"Mr. Johnson, I don't want this!"
"Cave, I'm begging you, don't! Please!"
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
*GLaDOS voice* "I am awake. And I am going to kill you all."

I'm not sure if this is the entire conversation that Caroline had since in the quote it just says that these are some lines of the dialouge. Anyways I thought this was interesting because it may be a small clue towards the timeline. Especially judging from the last verse.

Using a 2D gaming engine that uses Lua called Löve, this guy/these guys have re-created NES Super Mario Bros and have given him a portal gun. There appears to be a real-time map editor and all sorts of portally goodness mappacks that they're adding all the time. It's absolute genius and you ought to check it out. The best part is, the Löve platform has been developed for Windows, PC, and Linux!

Portal 2: Things to See and Do

The Courtesy Call

1. After waking up from suspension for the first time, you will be told to stare at a piece of art. The painting depicts a log cabin and a mountain at dawn. However, after waking up for the second time, it is shown to be night.
2. Once you have woken up from suspension for the second time, note the imprint that you have left in the bed sheets, indicating that you have been in suspension for a very long time.
3. If you do not open the door to let Wheatley in, he will go through a sequence of scripted quotes. They include "Will you just open the door!" and "Hm... Could be Spanish."
4. Also in the first room, you can find a Television on the wall. After waking up for the second time, there is an Aperture Science symbol at the top of the screen, along with a "We are experiencing technical difficulties." message at the bottom.
5. Just opposite the bed that Chell has been sleeping in is a fridge. After waking up for the second time, the door is wide open, showing that it is completely empty.
6. While Wheatley is smashing up the container, have a look out of the cracks that are being made in it. Each of the other Extended Relaxation Centers have large packing slips stuck onto them. These slips describe the person, with options such as Fat or Slim or Male or Female. There is also an expiration date showing when they died.
7. When Wheatley states "I think there's a docking station up ahead.", have a look at the writing on the wall. "Docking Station 001-04, 500 Feet Below."
8. The timer above the portal inside the Aperture Science Relaxation Vault is forever stuck on 12:00.
9. The clipboard inside the Aperture Science Relaxation Vault is a representation of all of the testing symbols from the original Portal.
10. In Test Chamber 00, it is possible to see the observation rooms from the original Portal. This remains for most of the first part of the game.
11. As you enter the elevator chamber, look up. Note the large fan that is revolving around the top of the elevator.
12. As you exit the elevator into Test Chamber 02, note the presentation being played on the walls. The large, leopard printed turret is also seen during the end sequence of the game.
13. After the floor gives way, note the scribblings on the walls. One of them features a reference to GLaDoS killing the personnel of Aperture Science, along with other nods to the previous game.
14. After aqquaring the Portal Device and climbing the stairs, look up. You will notice multiple lights shining down from the ceiling. It is unkwown if these are natural or man made, as you cannot see anything past the ceiling.

Portal 2

Just finished Portal 2.

Nice game, well polished, good pacing and story unfolding, balanced puzzles, awesome and hilarous voice acting, much longer than Portal.

On the other hand, it's the same gameplay and the wow factor was much more diluted; I wouldn't be interested in a Portal 3. Graphics were good enough for a puzzle game, with gorgeous shadows and animations, but Source is showing its limits. I don't see Source at par with the competition out there, but I think that part of the delay of HL3 is due to a serious rewriting of the aging engine.

SPOILERS!! Vortigaunts speaking in Portal 2?

Maybe it's not a spoiler, but hey...better safe than sorry.

So I have just finished Portal 2 and noticed a couple of things.

1) In the room with the potatoes from "Bring your daughter to work day" (why only daughters anyway?), there is a project made by someone called Alix. Granted the Alyx we know from the Half-Life series is with a "y", but still...interesting.

2) Each time in use one "Excursion Funnel" I hear a sound similar or that is the same as the Vortigaunts talking (or whatever it is they do to vocalize). Or it was those strange cubes that Wheatley creates.

Any thoughts? Complete rubbish? Makes sense?

Custom Sound Allocation Help.

Alright, everyone, hey I'm a random new person - and I apologise that my first newbie move I make is to start instantaneously posting questions, but I'm seriously frustrated, here. I need some knowledge from some wise modding gurus (even though this is a fairly simple task, but for some reason it's giving me a run for my money.)

So. You know how you can place custom content into the SteamApps/Username/Portal/Portal - or whatever, folder? I'm sure you're all familiar with this nifty little way to easily slap in your own custom whoozawhatsits for your amusement. Well I've fully got that, and I've been working on a sort of.. Fun little number with Portal, fiddling with models, Portal gun sounds - pain sounds, ect, ect. I got that all working jim dandy. What's giving me error is custom GLaDOS dialogue.

I know that the GlaDOS dialogue is suppose to.. I mean, from what I thought, be in the Portal/Portal/Sound/vo/aperture_ai folder, right? To get the custom content to work? But here's the deal, pally's, it isn't. No matter how much I fiddle with it, it's not working. All the sound files are named proper, even the exact same size they initially were - I literally just fiddled with the sound file itself. And to boot, it worked in a different version of Portal (that I'm not sure if it's uhm.. Legality was all that.. Affirmed) where I did a manual over write of the original file, and the custom GLaDOS dialogue worked just fine in game. I've got an official version of Portal, I was just stating this to depict that the sound files are not corrupt, or anything of that sort. I'm really not sure what to do here, is it just not allowed or something..? I don't see why all other custom content works absolutely fine, and replacement dialogue for GLaDOS doesn't.. Am I missing something with the folder these sound files need to be located in? I noticed a similar issue someone had on here involving turret sounds.

Any help would be excellent. Really. I'm raging a little, here, since I've been working on this for some time, now. Thanks for reading if you did, and uh.. Hi. I'd love to wriggle myself into the Valve based community if allowed to. Names Lace, by the way.

Valve: No PS Move or 3D support in Portal 2; hints at Portal 3

This is mostly what it says in the thread title. Doug Lombardi has ruled out 3D and PlayStation move support in Portal 2, and says it will have to wait for Portal 3 or another title.

I am in no way saying that this is Valve saying Portal 3 is going to happen, but the fact that he specifically chose to say "Portal 3" instead of simply "another title" is at least a nudge in the direction that Valve are at least thinking about Portal 3 - whether it ever gets made is another issue, of course.

EDIT: Turns out this post is from 30th of July last year, or only a couple of months after Portal 2 was first announced. Still, useful info.

EDIT: Turns out this post is from 30th of July last year, or only a couple of months after Portal 2 was first announced. Still, useful info.
